The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) creates regulations for national flood-related information and processes, including determination of Special Floodplain Hazard Areas, establishment of standards, and implementation of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The agency then dictates that local communities manage these policies through Community Officials. Floodplain Management in Ellis County is located in the Environmental/Planning & Zoning Office at 1515 W. 55th Street, Hays, Kansas.
Initially you will need to complete a Flood Plain Inquiry (Come to the office). This will activate a Flood Plain Determination. If the property you wish to develop is in the floodplain a Floodplain Development Permit Application may need to be completed.
Other Permits & Applications
Keep in mind that Ellis County has
